DreamWorks Lays Off Dozens of Employees As ‘Dragons 2′ Continues to Underperform

wannabeanimator:

via Cartoon Brew

According to the DreamWorks sources that the union spoke with:

The studio didn’t have enough features that required staff building front-end production elements, so employees in departments that were overstaffed—and who didn’t have longer-term contracts or assignments—were given their walking papers.

The studio gave no prior warning to the employees that it laid off and demanded that they leave the studio that day. There are reports that employees weren’t even allowed to return to their cubicles to pack their belongings. “I get that the company needs to be cautious,” one person told the Animation Guild, “but I talked to one employee who said she wasn’t allowed back to her desk. She was kind of upset.”

DreamWorks’ stock has plummeted 35% since the beginning of 2014. How to Train Your Dragon 2 suffered another steep decline in its third U.S. weekend, dropping 46% at the box office. The first film in the series, by contrast, dropped just 14% in its third weekend.

pregnant merida for mericcup?

allonsyraerae:

She’d been asleep for hours, her feet propped up against headboard. Her curls cascaded over the bedsheets, gown tossed on the floor and her petticoats lifted up over her knees. Her swollen middle heaved softly with each breath she took.

A small terrible terror, affectionately named Horrendous (Hiccup was still horrified she had used his good family name on a lower class dragon of all things), was contently snuggled atop of the pregnant mound. His tongue occasionally flickered out to lap at an eye, signaling that the baby beneath him was moving and kicking. Merida groaned slightly and her eyes cracked open.

The babe was only ever this wiggly when it was time to eat. “A’righ’… A’righ’, ‘m getting up…” she huffed, weakly pushing up on her elbows. Horrendous licked his eye again and then stretched before slinking off of his mistress and landing in a heap at her side. “‘ello to ye, too, Horrendous.” She affectionately scratched under his chin and down his back, making him arch and purr happily.

The woman sighed as she eyed her ever growing belly and was faced with a problem. To eat required getting up. Getting up required moving her feet… and moving her feet required shifting around until they got unstuck from the notches. She grunted and tried to lift her leg up higher—instantly her middle protested and she whined loudly as she tried several other tactics to free her feet from the carved notching in the headboard.

Finally, she gave up and came to her last resort…

“… Hiccuuuuup?” she tried, barely daring to hope he was still in the home. She had to pee. And she could not get up. She had to eat. And she could not get up.

Her husband was her last hope.

     “Just a sec, Meri—”

     “Hiccup, ‘m stuck—”

There was a long pause and then he chuckled. Merida flushed indignantly. “Oh yes, laugh at your pregnant wife, your chief-ship—”

“Sorry—sorry, I’m coming, hold on—” Hiccup laughed. She heard the scratch of a chair against the floor and then the familiar clink of his metal leg against wooden staircase. He gave his wife a soft smile as he breached the doorway, Toothless flanking behind him. “… Honey—how—”

     “I wanted my feet up—!”

     “I noticed.”
